That passage is incredible. I think I adore Tolkien for the depth his world has -- you can read, discover and read more and go even deeper. The layers just don't end.
I read a lot of Rilke in uni. It encouraged me not to give up on things when they were dry, boring, or seemingly inconsequential. I have to go back and re-read him again.
